A note on what monitoring systems do not monitor
Observability tooling tends to surface what it was designed to surface. The interesting drift usually occurs in the regions it was not.
Monitoring systems are built around a set of expectations about what failure looks like. They are remarkably effective inside that frame and remarkably quiet outside it.
The operational drift that matters is rarely the kind that triggers an alert. It is the kind that slowly reshapes the meaning of the alerts themselves — until the dashboard is green and the system is no longer the one that was designed.
